Fulton County Adopts Community Sustainability Plan

The Fulton County Board of Commissioners unanimously passed the county's first sustainability plan earlier this month. Adoption of the plan has fast-tracked both long-term and short-term sustainability initiatives for healthy buildings, energy efficiency, and more.

Green Communities Spotlight
Measure 69: Community Sustainability Plan
In order to encourage our local governments to look at sustainability on a holistic level, we introduced Measure 69: Community Sustainability Planning into the Green Communities Program in 2014. This measure requires local governments to create and adopt an official plan that includes a vision statement, a comprehensive set of goals, action plans, and stakeholder engagement.

Fulton County re-certified as a Bronze Level Green Community in 2018 but did not receive credit for Measure 69 because their sustainability plan was not yet officially adopted. When the county is due for re-certification in 2022, they can use the newly adopted plan to apply for credit for this measure. Currently, only the City of Decatur has received credit for this measure.
