Summer 2022

Coming Up: New Partnerships & Artist-Led Initiatives

This fall, we will be partnering with Orange Sparkle Ball to conduct broader community engagement and bring an interactive, localized exhibit to each of our focus census tracts. We will also be working closely with local organizations to incorporate additional resources and services to bring to each community. We hope to reach all residents, while incorporating their valuable input to our initiative. Stay tuned for more details and dates for each county!

Over the last month, we've been meeting with existing collaboratives and coalitions from our counties to understand how we can convene more regularly with them to support each other's efforts in our target areas. Over the next few months, we'll be working on convening similar groups in all of our remaining counties. If you know of a service organization or resident who should be engaged in a coalition or would be equipped to lead this effort, feel free to reach out to kperumbeti@atlantaregional.org or ayost@atlantaregional.org.

Recent Accomplishments: Extending Connections Across Sectors

This quarter, we've been focusing on deepening our relationships with local elected officials and staff by hosting two separate webinars and Q&A sessions with administrations that overlap with our focus census tract locations. We were pleased by overall attendance across the region, with at least one representative from most of our target areas attending a session. If you are a city or county official and missed these talks, email kperumbeti@atlantaregional.org to receive access to the webinar recording!

What We're Learning From

With all of the extreme heat events happening all over the world and in our own neighborhoods, learning more about climate change has been top of mind for many people. We're learning how climate change disproportionately impacts low-income communities, which include the low life expectancy locations we're focusing on with the Live Beyond Expectations Strategic Plan in the Atlanta region.

The video below highlights how heat waves present greater challenges to low-income Atlantans. While the burden is inequitably borne by those already experiencing the the most disparities in health and quality of life, it's vital to recognize that climate change is affecting all of us now.

How climate change hits Atlanta’s low-income residents

But not all hope is lost, especially when it comes to building coalitions to design innovative solutions. Read more about the ways intergenerational cooperation can help combat climate change, and take action in your own life today.
