CURRENTLY OPEN

Strengthening Mobility and Revolutionizing Transportation (SMART) Grants

Application Due Date: November 18, 2022

The purpose of the SMART Grants Program is to conduct demonstration projects focused on advanced smart city or community technologies and systems in a variety of communities to improve transportation efficiency and safety. The program funds projects that are focused on using technology interventions to solve real-world challenges and build data and technology capacity and expertise in the public sector.

Applications for $100,000,000 of FY 2022 funding are being accepted through November 18, 2022. Technical questions must be submitted by November 4, 2022. Only Stage 1 Planning and Prototyping Grants of up to $2,000,000 per project will be funded in FY 2022. In subsequent years, Stage 2 Implementation Grants of up to $15,000,000 per project will be awarded. No match is required for Stage 1 grants.

Advanced Transportation Technologies and Innovative Mobility Deployment (ATTIMD) Program / Advanced Transportation Technology and Innovation (ATTAIN) Program

Application Due Date: November 18, 2022

The Advanced Transportation Technologies & Innovative Mobility Deployment program will make competitive grants to deploy, install, and operate advanced transportation technologies.

Applications for $60,000,000 of FY 2022 funding are being accepted through November 18, 2022. FHWA anticipates making not less than five and no more than 10 awards of up to $12 million.

Charging & Fueling Infrastructure Grants (Corridor Charging)

Department of Transportation / Federal Highway Administration

Deploy electric vehicle (EV) charging and hydrogen/propane/natural gas fueling infrastructure along designated alternative fuel corridors and in communities.

Estimated application opening date: 4th quarter 2022.

Charging and Fueling Infrastructure Grants (Community Charging)

Department of Transportation / Federal Highway Administration

Program funds will be made available each fiscal year for Community Grants, to install EV charging and alternative fuel in locations on public roads, schools, parks, and in publicly accessible parking facilities. These grants will be prioritized for rural areas, low-and moderate-income neighborhoods, and communities with low ratios of private parking, or high ratios of multiunit dwellings.

Estimated application opening date: 4th quarter 2022.

Regional Clean Hydrogen Hubs

Department of Energy / Office of Clean Energy DemonstratioApplication Due Date: November 7, 2022

To support the development of at least 4 regional clean hydrogen hubs to improve clean hydrogen production, processing, delivery, storage, and end use.

The Department of Energy is implementing this program in four phases.  In this first phase, detailed project planning will be undertaken for approximately six to ten locations selected to receive $6-7 billion of funding. The remaining funds are being reserved for a possible second round of applications to identify additional hubs. Phase 1 Concept Reports are due November 7, 2022 and full applications are due April 7, 2023. The anticipated minimum award for a site will be $400 million and the maximum will be $1.25 billion.  All awards will require a 50% match.

State and Local Cybersecurity Grant Program

Application Due Date: November 15, 2022

The State and Local Cybersecurity Grant Program makes available federal funds to state, local, and Tribal governments to address cybersecurity risks and cybersecurity threats to information systems that they own or operate.

Applications for $185,024,069 of FY 2022 funds are being accepted through November 15, 2022. Each state is apportioned an amount it may apply for and Georgia is eligible to receive $4,877,389. A 10% match is required. Local governments could then be permitted to apply as a subrecipient through the designated state administrative agency.

FTA 5312 Program - Research, Development, Demonstration and Deployment Projects (Includes Public Transportation Innovation Program)

Application Due Date: November 21, 2022

Provides funding to assist innovative projects and activities that advance and sustain safe, efficient, equitable, climate-friendly public transportation. Eligible research and demonstrations under this program explore novel approaches to improve public transportation service – especially for transit-dependent individuals; advance vehicle and system technologies for safety, energy efficiency, and operational performance; use data for enhanced insights; and undertake other activities that help transit agencies meet equity, safety, climate change and transformation goals for a safer, environmentally cleaner, socially just and connected public transportation system.

Applications for $6.5 million of FY 2022 funding are being accepted through November 21, 2022 for demonstration projects related to the feasibility of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems and Automated Transit Bus Maintenance and Yard Operations Demonstration Projects. Of this, $5 million will be for Advanced Driver Assistance Systems applications and $1.5 million for an initial phase of Automated Transit Bus Maintenance and Yard Operations applications. Subject to availability, additional funding may be provided to implement a second phase of the Automated Transit Bus Maintenance and Yard Operations Demonstration Projects. Collectively, these demonstrations are part of the Public Transportation Innovation Program, which is in turn part of the overall FTA 5312 program. Additional NOFOs may be released using remaining funds allocated to the FTA 5312 program at a later date.

Carbon Storage Validation and Testing: CarbonSAFE Program

Application Due Date: November 28, 2022

To establish a program of research, development, and demonstration for carbon storage.

A first round of applications for a maximum of $2.25 billion of funding are being accepted through November 28, 2022. All funds provided under IIJA are expected to be awarded through a single notice which will be reissued multiple times through 2026 with varying closing dates. Funds will be used for permitting, NEPA, and construction of projects previously under development through the CarbonSAFE program or other sources. Awards will range from a minimum of $100,000 for NEPA up to $195 million for construction.

Consolidated Rail Infrastructure and Safety Improvement Grants

Application Due Date: December 1, 2022

To fund projects that improve the safety, efficiency, and reliability of intercity passenger and freight rail.

Applications for approximately $1.4 billion in FY 2022 funding are being accepted through December 1, 2022. A minimum of 25% will be reserved for projects in rural areas. At least $150 million will be reserved for capital projects and $25 million for measures to prevent trespassing. Up to $7 million will be available for MAGLEV projects. Some funds available under this NOFO are derived from other programs and appropriations in previous fiscal years.

FTA 5337 Program - Rail Vehicle Replacement Grants

Application Due Date: January 5, 2023


Capital projects for the replacement of rail rolling stock. Not more than three new competitive awards to eligible projects may be announced each fiscal year. FTA may select projects for multi-year awards.


Applications for $600 million of FY 2022 and FY 2023 funds are being accepted through January 5, 2023.  Funds from this program may account for no more than 50% of the total project cost, but other federal funding sources can be used to raise the overall federal participation rate to 80%.

Flood Mitigation Assistance Grants

Application Due Date:  January 27, 2023


The Flood Mitigation Assistance program makes federal funds available to states, U.S. territories, federally recognized Tribal governments, and local communities to reduce or eliminate the risk of repetitive flood damage to buildings and structures.

Applications for $800,000,000 of FY 2022 are being accepted through January 27, 2023.  This amount includes base funding from the National Flood Insurance Fund established under the National Flood Insurance Act of 1968 - Section 1366, as well as the supplemental funding provided by IIJA.  Of this amount, $60,000,000 is reserved for Capability and Capacity Building, $340,000,000 for Localized Flood Risk Reduction Projects, and $400,000,000 for Individual Flood Mitigation Projects.  Each project type has a variety of funding maximum funding caps, but all require a 25% match.

Building Resilient Infrastructure and Communities

Application Due Date:  January 27, 2023


The Building Resilient Infrastructure and Communities program makes federal funds available to states, U.S territories, federally recognized Tribal governments, and local communities for hazard mitigation activities.

Applications for $2,295,000,000 of FY 2022 funding are being accepted through January 27, 2023.  This amount includes base funding from the Disaster Relief Fund established under the Stafford Act Section 203, as well as the supplemental funding provided by IIJA.  States and tribes are allocated $162,000,000, which leaves $2,113,000,000 for the national competition.  Awards will be capped at $50,000,000 and a 25% match will be required.
